San Pedro Streetscape Project Update

The San Pedro Streetscape visioning process concluded on July 27, 2011. The focus of this process was to envision changes to San Pedro Dr. from Constitution to Lomas in order to improve its appearance and accessibility for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Below is a list of the posters providing the results of this process:

In October 2011, the Fair Heights Neighborhood Association Board of Directors decided to support the recommended alternative made by the UNM Community and Regional Planning Students. In addition to learning more about the potential impacts of these concepts, FHNA will continue to work to gain support for improvements to the street. San Pedro Streetscape Proposals Now Available

SAN PEDRO STREETSCAPE PROPOSALS

On July 2, 2011, the UNM Community and Regional Planning Studio presented alternatives for streetscape improvements on San Pedro, for the segment of road that is approximately between Constitution to Lomas. The studio also provided a recommendation for improvements of the Constitution/San Pedro intersection. The recommendations were made based on the input that was received at the first visioning meeting on June 11, 2011 at Mark Twain Elementary School. Please take a look at the recommendations below and provide us with your comments.

Please take a look at the following documents, which were the basis of the UNM Studio presentation on Saturday July 2nd. Pay close attention to [4_trasnportation] and [5_transportation] as these contain options for changes to the street and intersection; we are especially interested in hearing your input on the transportation options. When providing feedback, it would be help if you indicated what sheet you were referring to (1 through 6).

Restrictions Due to Fire Danger

RESTRICTIONS DUE TO FIRE DANGER

ATTENTION FAIR HEIGHTS RESIDENTS

The following message is from Bernalillo County and the City of Albuquerque sent 6/28/11:

“City and county leaders and fire officials are strongly discouraging the use of fireworks except at public events such as the City of Albuquerque’s Freedom Fourth celebration, Isotopes Park and the City of Rio Rancho’s annual Pork & Brew, just to name a few. While state law allows restrictions to be imposed, an outright ban of the sale of fireworks is prohibited by state law. As permitted by state law and city ordinance, the City of Albuquerque along with jurisdictions across the state have banned the sale and use of all aerial type fireworks and fire crackers that are louder than a paper pistol cap. Aerial fireworks are illegal, defined as fireworks that go more than 10′ feet in the air or move outside of a 6′ circle.” These restrictions have been put in place due to the extremely dry conditions and potential for fires.

FHNA UPCOMING VISIONING CHARRETTE FOR SAN PEDRO STREETSCAPE: SATURDAY JUNE 11, 2011

The Fair Heights Neighborhood Association is sponsoring a visioning charrette in collaboration with the UNM School of Architecture and Planning. We welcome residents, businesses and organizations of FHNA and surrounding neighborhoods to contribute their ideas for the future of the San Pedro Streetscape. The Visioning Charrette will be held on Saturday June 11, 2011 from 10 am to 2 p.m. at Mark Twain Elementary School located at 6316 Constitution. A light lunch will be provided. New Board Elected

Thanks to all members who voted in the most recent election, and welcome to the new and returning board members and committee chairs! Thanks also to the outgoing board members and volunteers who have worked so hard in their spare time to make Fair Heights a great neighborhood to live in.

The FHNA Board presented Ike and Sharon Eastvold with “Outstanding Service to the FHNA” awards for their eighteen years of volunteer work on behalf of a better Fair Heights neighborhood. Term limit provisions in the FHNA Bylaws require that a Board member must step off the Board for at least one year after serving two consecutive 2-year terms. Ike Eastvold and Susan De Rosa both completed their four years of service, and have left the Board. Sharon Eastvold has delivered the FHNA Newsletter into the able hands of our new editor, Danielle De Rosa.

The Leadership page has been updated. We’ll see you at the next meeting!
